Synopsis The Makropulos Case

Prague 1922: ”Causa Gregor Plus” has kept the legal firm of Kolenaty & Sons going for the past 95 years. The disputed inheriance hangs on the lack of a written will. Only a miracle can save the prospects of young Abert Gregor. And one arrives in the person of Emilia Marty, Diva of the Imperial Opera. But how can she be so sure of a document sealed 95 years ago? Gregor´s adversary Baron prus is intriged; even more so when it becomes clear that Marty is in pursuit of something else…

What is in the mysterious sealed envelope she is so desperate to obtain? Suspiciousof her familiarity with the depraved love letters of Ellian Mc Gregor – by coincidence also a diva, but one from another century – Prus pursues Marty from lawyers´office to theatre to hotel bedroom. Why does senile old Hauk make love to her as Eugenia Montez? Why does the Gregor birth certificate bear the name Elina Makropulos and who the hell was Elsa Müller? In the ruthless pursuit of her secret Marty tramples casually over fathers, sons and daughters, wrecking relationships and leaving a trail of confusion and pain. But the most painful thing is the truth itself…
