Morten Grove Frandsen trained as a baritone, but in 2012 he switched to singing countertenor, the male equivalent of the female alto voice. The countertenor combines the attractive female vocal pitch with power and masculinity to create a very different effect, which was particularly fascinating to both composers and audiences in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries.
Morten G Frandsen imponerande countertenor 1987-
Morten G Frandsen took part in the Riga Baroque Festival’s production of the Vivaldi opera Orlando Furioso, and in 2013 he performed alongside the Danish Sinfonietta in Aarhus Sommeropera’s premiere of John Frandsen and Ivar Gjørup’s Egoland.
In 2016 he received the Reumert Talent Prize. The judges remarked:
“Achieving a rare beauty of sound in the unusual countertenor pitch, he enthralled the audience in a strange combination of drag and gold confetti. His captivating eyes and divine voice offer great promise for the future.”
