“Angela Mannino’s feisty maid-of-all-trades sparkled above the staff with acrobatic ease” said Opera News’ Mark Thomas Ketterson of her last minute debut on opening night as Blonde in The Abduction from the Seraglio at Lyric Opera of Chicago. Since completing her tenure as a member of Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center, Soprano Angela Mannino returned to Lyric last season for Parsifal singing the First Esquire and a Flowermaiden. Other major house debuts include the 15 Year Old Girl in Lulu at the Metropolitan Opera and Papagena in The Magic Flute at Dallas Opera.
A Sullivan Foundation Career Grant Winner, recent performances include Clorinda in La Cenerentola at Opera Omaha, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro with the Bar Harbor Music Festival, Oscar in Un Ballo in Maschera with New Orleans Opera, the Fairy Godmother in Cendrillon with Kentucky Opera and Zerlina in Don Giovanni with Madison Opera.
At Lyric Opera of Chicago, she sang the 15 Year Old Girl in Lulu, Giannetta in L’Elisir d’Amore and Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro. As a member of the Wolf Trap Opera Company, she sang Colombina in Le Donne Curiose and Fiorilla in Il Turco in Italia which The Washington Post’s Anne Midgette described her voice as having “the fresh naturalness of an old-school singer”. She also sang in the world premier of John Musto’s opera, The Inspector, commissioned by the Wolf Trap Foundation.
Other past engagements include, Gilda in Rigoletto with Opera Grand Rapids, Zerlina in Don Giovanni with Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi with New Orleans Opera and DuPage Opera, Fido in Paul Bunyan with Central City Opera and the First Maid in Daphne with Santa Fe Opera.
A native of New Orleans, Angela has been seen in a wide variety of performances with the New Orleans Opera and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. 2014-2015 season highlights include a return to Dallas for performances of Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro, Lyric Opera of Chicago for the Shepherd in Tannhauser and Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 with Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.
