David T. Heusel er nu også kunstnerisk leder af Sakai City Opera i Osaka i Japan og desuden første gæstedirigent ved Opera Ireland i Dublin. David T. Heusel began his career in Germany working for nine years as a vocal coach, director of musical studies and house conductor in Oberhausen, Kiel and Dortmund. In 1989 he became the Assistant Conductor of the Philharmonie de Nice, in Nice, France, where his repertoire included both concert and operatic works. From 1995-1997 Heusel was Musical Director of the Opéra Comique in Paris, France, conducting Mireille, La Bohème, Carmen and Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor to critical acclaim. Since 1998 he has worked as a free-lance conductor throughout Europe, North America and Asia.

Debut in Moscow

In April 2008 David T. Heusel debuted in Moscow at the renowned Stanislavsky Theater conducting Le sacre du printemps/Erda. Other recent engagements have included Le sacre du printemps/Erda and Der Nussknacker (Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Düsseldorf/Duisburg, Germany), Das Land des Lächelns (Opéra de Toulon, France) und Giselle (Opéra de Nice, France.) In 2007 he also conducted new productions of Giselle (Deutsche Oper am Rhein) and La fille mal gardée (Opernhaus Halle, Germany) as well as a symphony concert with the Tapiola Sinfonietta in Helsinki, Finland.

International conducting

Heusel international conducting career: Canadian Opera Company, Toronto (Norma, with June Anderson in the title role and La Bohème), the Savonlinna Opera Festival, Finland, (Les contes d’Hoffmann), the Diaghilev Festival in Perm, Russia (Alcina), the Opernhaus Halle (La clemenza di Tito, Giselle, Martha); the Royal Danish Opera, Copenhagen (Rigoletto); the Teatro Giuseppe Verdi, Trieste, Italy (La duchessa di Chicago); the Teatro de la Zarzuela, Madrid and the Théâtre du Capitole, Toulouse (Le Revenant);

the Grand Théâtre de Genève (La fille du Régiment, also broadcast live on Swiss television);  the Sakai City Opera, Osaka, where for four years he was Musical Director (Don Carlo, Carmen, Cavalleria rusticana, Le rossigno, Die Fledermaus, Le nozze di Figaro) and Dublin, Ireland, where he has worked extensively both with Opera Ireland (Die Zauberflöte, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Madama Butterfly, Die Fledermaus, Carmen, La Cenerentola and Hänsel und Gretel) and the RTE Concerto Orchestra (numerous live radio concerts.)

2008-2009 engagements for David T. Heusel include A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Oper Halle, a Gala Concert with June Anderson in Geneva, Swan Lake, Giselle and The Nutcracker at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and Madama Butterfly at the Lake George Opera Festival in June 2009.
