Artistic Director

As artistic director for the professional, experimental opéra nouveau company Operation Opera, Hedvig has profiled her self as a concept designer with statements which are quite exceptional in the opera bransch. Her focus on contemporary and forgotten repertoire combined with a thourough questioning of cliché attributes is a part of her credo to endeavour an increased artistic freedom and more implements rather than restrictions that lies within conventions.

She denounces the conservative opera establishement’s obesession with the standard repertoire, which otherwise surely contributes to the audiences extremely strict expectations on the artistic configuration and in the long term reduces the opera genre to a compromise in the context of general cultural history. In co-operation with director David Hornwall, Hedvig Jalhed has gained great reviews for her stage-management.
