Iford Arts – operafestival

Iford Arts

Iford är en engelsk by i East Sussex. Här anordnas årligen sedan slutet av 1980-talet en operafestival som sträcker sig över juni augusti varje år.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Iford /ˈfərd/ is a village and civil parish in the Lewes District of East Sussex, England. The village is located two miles (3.2 km) south of Lewes. The parish lies on slopes of the South Downs in the valley of the River Ouse.

The parish church is dedicated to St Nicholas.

Now in its twenty-first year of consistent evolution Iford Arts reflects its host venue, the Peto Garden at Iford in its emphasis on organic growth offering  a select audience of 90 the opportunity to see world-class opera within the glorious environment of the exquisite Italianate cloister.

In 1995, a new planting, the Magic Flute, by local amateurs, Opera Piccola, proved the outstanding sales success of the season.

Since then over 50 operas have been produced for, or by Iford Arts, productions staged, uniquely for the Iford cloister. Growing year on year the festival in 2015 culminates in 20 nights of opera, 3 very popular picnic proms and 2 cloister concerts.

Iford Arts believes it has a fundamental role to provide and nurture new and emerging talent and the Young Artist scheme, devised in 2009 was set up to ensure that all our covers have the opportunity to showcase their hand selected talents within 2 extremely popular concerts.

In 2010 Iford Arts realised a long held dream with the launch of its Education Outreach programme helping share the great wealth of talent at Iford every summer with the local community.

Iford is very much a home and community into which we are welcomed as guests by John and Elizabeth Hignett. Their encouragement and ideas throughout the years have been vital in helping us to create what is so special about the Iford Arts festival.
