Roberto Frontali baryton
Roberto Frontali is being regarded as one of the leading Verdian baritones of his generation.
He made his operatic debut at the Teatro dell´Opera in Rome in Spontini´s Agnese di Hohenstaufen. Throughout his career, he has conquered a vast repertoire singing works by various composers such as Bellini, Donizetti and Rossini and for the past few years, he has been devoting his time to Verdi roles, those include Don Carlo, Falstaff, Ernani, Trovatore, Traviata, Simon Boccanegra, Ballo in Maschera, Luisa Miller, Attila, Vespri Siciliani and Rigoletto. In the early nineties, he made his debuts at the Metropolitan Opera and at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, singing Bellini´s Beatrice di Tenda. One of his signature roles has been Figaro in Barbiere di Seviglia. He has performed the role in Ferrara (under Abbado), Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro,Rome, Genova,La Scala in Milan, Vienna, Tokyo, Nice, the Met and Covent Garden. He began this season with Don Carlo in Vienna and Torino followed by Lucia di Lammermoor at La Scala ; and Trovatore in Parma. He recently starred in the title roles in a new production of Simon Boccanegra at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.Two news debuts in 2007 as Nabucco in Ancona and Stankar in Stiffelio for his eagerly-awaited return to Covent Garden. The season 2007 will continue with Count di Luna in Madrid, Renato in Ballo in Maschera in Florence, Rodrigo in Don Carlo in Dresden and Simone in Bologna. In 2008 he will sing in Torino(Rigoletto),in Genoa and Dresda(Trovatore). He will come back to La Fenice in Venice(Barber) and to Cagliari(Onieghin). Back to the Met of New York with Rigoletto and Michonnet in 2009.Recently he has been Nabucco and Simone in Palermo. On July 2010 he made two new debuts: Jack Rance at the San Francisco Opera with maestro Luisotti and Don Carlo di Vargas at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino with maestro Metha. he was Rigoletto again under the baton of maestro Chung at the Fenice of Venice. New debuts in 2011, he was Scarpia and Amonasro under the baton of maestro Daniel Oren. This year he is Falstaff(title role) in Lausanne, production of Arnaud Bernard, Alfio in Cavalleria with James Conlon, Nabucco in Bilbao, Scarpia in San Francisco with Nicola Luisotti. New debut with Michele and Schicchi in Puccini’s Trittico. Again with Maestro Luisotti eh makes is debut in Otello in Naples San Carlo Opera House and in 2015 under the baton or Maestro Gatti he is Macbeth in Paris Champs Ellisees and Golaud in Pelleas and Melisande of Gounod in the 78 Maggio Musicale of Florence.
