Viktor Afanasenko was born in Novouralsk in Russia. He appeared with his rock band in a TV contest, and his potential as an opera singer did not go unnoticed! He went on to study at the Ekaterinburg Conservatory. In Russia, he sang at the State Operas of Perm and Ekaterinburg, and at the St. Petersburg Mussorgskij and Kirov Theatres. He was invited to attend auditions at various theatrical agencies, and came to Austria. His first major success in the West was as “Ernani” at the Landestheater in Linz.
