Barry Millington er forfatter og redaktør/medredaktor af syv bøger om Wagner, horunder Wagner, The Wagner Compendium, The Ring of the Nibelung: A Companion og Selected Letters of Richard Wagner. Han har skrevet artikler om Wagner og hans operaer til The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians og The New Grove Dictionary of Opera. Barry Millington er grundlægger og kunstnerisk leder af Hampstead & Highgate Festival (1999-2003). Har fungeret som dramaturgisk rådgiver på Lohengrin i Bayreuth og på Ringen i Tokyo. Medstifter af ensemblet Modvægt. Han er en af lederne af Wagner 200 (en bred række af arrangementer, der fejrer Wagneråret i 2013), og han er kendt som et TV- og foredragsholder.
2012 fungerade han som dramaturg i DKT:s uppsättning av Parsifal.
