Peter Hoare
Peter Hoare - tenor
English tenor Peter Hoare made his Royal Opera debut in 2001 singing Spoletta (Tosca). His many roles since for the Company have included Valzacchi (Der Rosenkavalier), Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte), Goro (Madama Butterfly), Don Basilio (Le nozze di Figaro), Larry King (Anna Nicole, world premiere), Abbé (Andrea Chénier), Fatty (Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny) and Dr Caius (Falstaff). In the 2015/16 Season he returns to sing Normanno (Lucia di Lammermoor).
Hoare was born in Bradford and trained as a percussionist before beginning his singing career. Engagements include Zinovy Ismailov (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk), Hermann (The Queen of Spades), Faust (The Damnation of Faust), Michel (Julietta), Sharikov (A Dog’s Heart), Creon (Thebans) and Gregor (The Makropulos Case) for English National Opera, Idomeneo for Glyndebourne Festival, Tito (La clemenza di Tito), Herod (Salome), Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos), Captain (Wozzeck) and Alwa (Lulu) for Welsh National Opera, Captain for the Metropolitan Opera, New York, Nono’s Al gran sole carico d’amore for Salzburg Festival, Desportes (Die Soldaten) for Ruhrtriennale, in Tokyo, New York and for Zürich Opera, Shapkin (From the House of the Dead) for Berlin State Opera, Reverend Adams (Peter Grimes) for La Scala, Milan, and Alviano (Die Gezeichneten) in Palermo.
Hoare’s concert appearances have included Das Lied von der Erde with the Royal Concertbebouw Orchestra under Daniel Harding, Mahler’s Symphony no.8 with the Hallé under Mark Elder, A Child of Our Time with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Berlioz’s Roméo et Juliette with the Berlin Philharmonic.
