Petrus Schroderus finländsk tenor

 Han är en av Finlands mest lovande tenorer. Han har ett tjugotal roller på meritlistan med framträdanden vid bland annat finska nationaloperan och Savonlinna Opera Festival. Bland rollerna märks Lensky i Eugen Onegin, Tamino i Trollflöjjten, Arturo i Lucia di Lammermoor och Nemorino i Kärleksdrycken. Han har studerat för den legendariske finske tenoren Esko Jurvelin samt i New York, Wien, Essen och i Florida. Han är också en flitigt anlitad konsertsångare. Han har samarbetat med många framstående dirigenter, som Leif Segerstam, Florian Ludwig, Ralf Weikert, Hannu Lintu, Jan Söderblom och Alberto Hold-Garrido.

Det var efter att ha vunnit den prestigefyllda Timo Mustakallio-tävlingen sommaren 2004 som han blev professionell operasångare. Innan dess arbetade han i sex år som polisman i finska Oulo.

2008 fick han ett stipendium från Maritta och Carl Wahrens stipendiefond på 10 000 kronor för sina insatser som Cavaradossi i årets Opera på Skärets uppsättning av Tosca.

Petrus Schroderus was born in the northern city of Oulu, Finland. He started taking lessons in classical singing  in Music High-School of Leevi Madetoja 1989 under tuition of finnish tenor Aki Alamikkotervo. Schroderus continued his studies privately aside his day work during years 1995-2000 under many tutors.

After recommendation from his previous teachers, Schroderus met most prestigious finnish ”the teacher of tenors”, Mr. Esko Jurvelin. Jurvelin started teaching Schroderus, 2001. Under the tuition of Mr. Jurvelin Schroderus took part in some local competitions and won his first operetta song-contest in 2001.

In the year 2003 Schroderus took part in the Lohja International Tenor Competition and to the amazement of many, was awarded, amongst over 30 contestants, the prof. Seppo Ruohonen prize for ”Distinguished tenor”

With help of Finnish Cultural Association, Schroderus received a scholarship and was trained in 2004 spring under tuition of Mrs. Ljudmila Ivanova in Vienna.

After this, Schroderus took part in prestigious Timo Mustakallio-contest and won the first prize in the summer 2004.

Immediately after the contest, Schroderus was asked to ”try out” as a soloist in the Finnish National Opera for the season 2004-2005.

Since then, Schroderus has been a private student of Mr. Raimo Sirkiä, tenor, and has studied abroad (in New York, Vienna, Essen and Florida) under tutelage of Jeffrey Goldberg from the Metropolitan Opera and longer periods with Ms. Anita Salta from Essen, Germany.

Schroderus has been performing in Finnish National Opera, Savonlinna Opera Festival, Nilsiä Opera Cava, Opera på Skäret (Sweden)  festival in more than 15 roles. After becoming a full-time singer he has either performed or practiced 20+ roles. He has received both national and international appraisals for his performances from numerous publications, including Operaweb (UK), Operayre (argentinian), Expressen (swedish), Der Neue Merker (austrian), not to mention Finnish newspapers. He is also a frequent soloist for orchestras and he has given more than 100 performances, including concert recitals and church concerts. He has collaborated with many conductors of which to name at least: Leif Segerstam, Florian Ludwig, Ralf Weikert, Hannu Lintu, Jan Söderblom, Alberto Hold-Garrido, Tobias Ringborg, Mikko Franck.
