Roland Wood - baryton

English baritone Roland Wood made his Royal Opera debut in 2015 as Roucher (Andrea Chénier) and has since sung Ford (Falstaff) for the Company.

Wood was born in Berkshire and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and the National Opera Studio. He won second prize in the 2000 Kathleen Ferrier Awards. He was a company principal with Scottish Opera 2002–04, singing roles including Dr Falke (Die Fledermaus) and Papageno (Die Zauberflöte). In 2003 he represented England in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. He regularly sings with English National Opera, where his roles have included Kissinger (Nixon in China), Marcello (La bohème), Alfio (Cavalleria rusticana), Zurga (The Pearl Fishers), Paolo Albiani (Simon Boccanegra), Count Almaviva (The Marriage of Figaro), Speaker and Papageno (The Magic Flute), Bunyan/Pilgrim (The Pilgrim’s Progress), Don Fernando (Fidelio) and Oedipus (Thebans).

Wood’s engagements elsewhere include Albert (Werther), Robert Storch (Intermezzo) and Conte di Luna (Il trovatore) for Scottish Opera, Giorgio Germont (La traviata) for Santa Fe Opera and Opera North, Renato (Un ballo in maschera) for the Canadian Opera Company, Don Fernando, Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor), Giorgio Germont (La traviata) and Renato for Nationale Reisopera, Don Giovanni and Eugene Onegin for English Touring Opera and Papageno for Opera Holland Park.
