Leonardo Ferrando - tenor
Leonardo Ferrando made his European debut in 2009 performing “La Cenerentola” at Theater Bremen, where he was immediately re–engaged to sing “Il Barbiere di Siviglia”, both with Michael Hampe direction.
After this successful beginning, he took part in different productions in Berlin, Innsbruck, Bergamo, Lucca, Novara, Lodz, Würzburg, and Gießen, performing diverse operas such as “Don Giovanni”, “Idomeneo”, “Guglielmo Tell” and the acclaimed German premieres of “Maria, Regina d’Inghilterra” from belcanto’s composer Giovanni Pacini and “La conquista di Granata” from the spanish belcanto composer Emilio Arrieta.
Role highlights include Almaviva, Don Ramiro, Ernesto (Don Pasquale), Nemorino, Orombello (Beatrice di Tenda), Tamino, Don Ottavio, Ferrando, Arbace (Idomeneo), Pescatore (Guglielmo Tell), Beppe, etc.
He has been heard in different cities of South America like São Paulo, Buenos Aires or Montevideo.
Mr. Ferrando took part in the final rounds of prestigious competitions such as Neue Stimmen Singing Competition, Competizione dell’Opera (Dresden) and Francisco Viñas. He was awarded in the Aldo Baldin Singing Competition and in the International Mozart Singing Competition of London.
He studied in Florence, Italy, with Mtro. Jorge Ansorena and in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with Mtra. Cecilia Varela. In the meantime he actively participated in Master-classes and consultation lessons delivered by prestigious singers such as Raúl Giménez, Alessandro Corbelli or Raquel Perotti.
Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, Mr. Ferrando studied at the Musical Conservatoire (EUM), Teatro del Centro Opera Studio, and received substantial scholarships from FONAM (National Fund of Music), Teatro del Centro, and SUDEI (Uruguayan Association of Performers).
Future engagements include “Linda di Chamounix” and “Don Pasquale”.
