Lucas Meachem - baryton

American baritone Lucas Meachem made his Royal Opera debut in 2009 as Aeneas (Dido and Aeneas) and has since sung Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and Marcello (La bohème) for The Royal Opera.

Meachem grew up in South Central, North Carolina, and studied at Appalachian State University, Eastman School of Music and Yale University. He started his career in music theatre, moving into opera through young artist programmes with Central City Opera and San Francisco Opera. His breakthrough came with his performance of Oreste (Iphigénie en Tauride) for Lyric Opera of Chicago. He has since sung for all the USA’s leading opera houses, and for such international companies as Vienna State Opera, Paris Opéra, Teatro Real, Madrid, and Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse.

Meachem’s repertory includes Count Almaviva, Don Giovanni, Figaro, Wolfram von Eschenbach (Tannhäuser), Zurga (Les Pêcheurs de perles), Valentin (Faust), Mercutio (Roméo et Juliette), Eugene Onegin, Marcello, Frank/Fritz (Die tote Stadt), Billy Budd and Guillaume Tell. His concert repertory includes such works as Bach’s St Matthew Passion and Orff’s Carmina Burana.
